An Educational Video on the Shame Cycle and How Dysfuctional Families Start
The term dysfunctional family has become popular in the last several decades, but the general public often does not really know what the term means. A dysfunctional family is an abusive family. Some of these families are physically or sexually abusive, but most often they display varying degrees of emotional abuse.
The emotional abuse that is shown in a dysfunctional family takes the form of expecting family members to be perfect and in control at all times. They are rigid and stilted and often don’t talk about feelings directly. They are run by shame and abandonment.
This does not mean that the members of a dysfunctional family are bad people. They are just very insecure and therefore blame each other for their problems. They are not as happy and healthy as they can be. The parents teach their children to feel shameful and they in turn teach it to their children. This educational video focuses on the causes, symptoms, and treatment of this painful disorder. The cycle of shame can be broken and this educational video is a great start.
The other self-help educational videos in the series include Communication Assertiveness training, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms and treatment, Healthy Boundaries, Love Addiction, Chemical Dependence or Substance Abuse, Codependency, and Parenting Skills Training.
